Travelling With A Camera

Travelling is my favourite thing. Adventures, capturing the world and bringing it back for people to see. But although my images are intended for others to see, travelling with a camera also changed the way I experienced the places.

Without my camera, visiting places felt fast paced. I’d take it in as it came, moving from one place to the next without seeing the detail in things.

But then came my camera… Having a camera whilst travelling made everything slow down. I started noticing things I would’ve otherwise missed. The way the light hits a building, the movement of people passing by, the small quick passing moments. Then travel started to feel intentional

When travelling with a camera, it became less about getting the perfect planned shots, but more so just being present enough to see the things around me. Some of my favourite photos have come unplanned. Small walks around Paris streets, hikes in the peaks; both with no destination and time to stop when something captured my eye.

On a more personal note travelling with a camera also helped build my confidence. Taking photos in unfamiliar places, busy environments, taking unknown routes to achieve certain photos - helped build my confidence. The more I did it, the more natural it became. I started to ignore the people around me peering in confusion as someone taking a photo of something as simple as a the wall.

On a more sentimental note, looking back on these images are not just a creative form of expression but also memorabilia, almost like a souvenir. They’re memories, moments and experiences all tied into one; and each images lets me relive it all over again.

Take that camera when you travel, you won’t regret it. Just leave room for your swim gear!
